Preform Manufacturing

SG Controls Ltd manufactures a complete range of MCVD, OVD and VAD products together with all of the associated gas handling and bulk storage systems.

 


MCVD was the mainstay of preform manufacturing for all fibre types during the early years of optical fibre production.  It still is the preferred technique for many of the specialised fibre preforms and special glass preforms.


The MCVD by SG Controls, in all of its various formats, is manufactured in house.  From the lathe bed to the special gas valves in the gas systems, the complete system is an SGC design.  This approach maintains our quality level and with systems in the field that are over 20 years old, the result is well proven.  Enhancements to the control systems and software packages in recent months means that the systems are fully up to date and capable of delivering any preform recipe for the innovative researcher.


Production scale preform manufacture, is support by the SGC VAD system.


Complementary products include the vertical sleeving lathe.


Bespoke Engineering

Engineers and design teams in SG Controls and throughout the Newton Technology Group are always on hand to advise and offer support for any bespoke engineering project. 

 

Technology Transfer

Independent process experts are often the best people to introduce staff to new technology particularly where existing production schedules cannot be compromised.  SG Controls are process experts and can deliver training and technical transitions either at your site or in the Newton Development Labs.  With a full suite of Optical Fibre manufacturing equipment we can train new staff and re train the more experienced in new techniques with disturbing your current process.

For large manufacturing installation projects a full package of technology transfer can be configured to meet the demands of full factory start up.
